BEHOLDER Project

Sioux Technologies

Who We Are

Sioux Technologies (Sioux) is a strategic high-tech solutions provider that develops, innovates and assembles complex high-tech systems.

Reason for joining BEHOLDER

Sioux previously developed a groundbreaking holographic microscope capable of detecting biological threats immediately in the lab—eliminating the traditionally required days of culturing colonies to confirm a real risk. Through BEHOLDER, we look forward to enabling this technology to make public spaces more secure.

Role in the Project

Sioux develops a biological threat detector and leads the work package focused on system design.

Collaboration

We closely collaborate with all BEHOLDER partners, with deeper interaction in specific areas. With IDEAS, we co-develop the biological detector. Together with DISSS, UIC and end-users—including Tampere, the Police of Meetjesland, the Municipality of Eindhoven, and the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs—we jointly define user requirements. In partnership with OpenRemote, we ensure our device’s data is unlocked securely and accessibly, while the expertise of UCL plays a crucial role in supporting our work.

Innovation We Bring

We introduce technology capable of recognizing individual bacteria but our main focus is to signal anomalies in biological signatures that need immediate attention from first responders.

Expected Project Outcome

A safer Europe, better protected from emerging and encircling CBRN-E threats, including biological risks as well.

Our Future Vision

BEHOLDER aligns with Sioux’s ambition to further develop our detection system and bring it to market through our established channels.

Other CBRN-E related Projects

Sioux is involved in the HoloZcan project as well as numerous client projects that cannot be publicly disclosed due to their sensitive nature.

Staff involved

Dr. Bas van der Linden

As Business Solution Manager, Bas gives shape to the long-term roadmaps at Sioux Technologies. With an engineering background in aerospace engineering and a PhD in mathematics, he has learned to cross technical disciplines to successfully bring promising academic research results to real world applications. With a focus on novel inspection methods in high-tech, medical and CBRN fields, Bas is working to bring methods to the market that combine optics, mathematics and high-speed electronics: three very different fields, each of which are bringing exhilarating new developments individually but only in combination of these three, as break-out of the lab to the real world is possible.

Dr. Elif Tasel

Elif is the systems architect for the biological threat detector that Sioux is building within BEHOLDER. As a seasoned architect, she enthusiastically brings together different stakeholders from end-users to the many technical disciplines required for a successful machine design. Elif’s technical expertise is in complex systems—especially based on optics, infrared and laser technologies. Elif has long-standing experience in safety and security markets, knowing both the need and the essential boundary conditions for the devices BEHOLDER is developing.

Edwin Langerak

Edwin is Sioux’s project leader for BEHOLDER. Besides making sure the project runs smoothly, Edwin brings extensive experience in biological threat detection to the table. Having functioned as CTO for LumiByte which was founded in 2012 by Sioux, a device was brought to the market to accelerate the process of detecting microorganisms in liquids. As co-developer of the MuScan microbiological detection equipment, Edwin enabled the detection of microorganisms in tap water and pharmaceutical products under 60 minutes. With his knowledge of both biological detection and managing complex projects, Edwin now helps to develop even faster detection times that will move BEHOLDER from the lab to open urban spaces.
